=VALUE(text)

VALUE syntax and parameters

    The text enclosed in quotation marks or a reference to a cell containing the text you want to convert.

  1. A number stored as text (“1,250.00”) turned into a real number:

    =VALUE(A2)

    Result1250

  2. The numeric part of a code, as a number you can sort and sum:

    =VALUE(MID(A2, 5, 5))

    Result10422

    The text isn't in a recognised number, date, or time format — non-breaking spaces and currency symbols from web exports are the usual culprits.
