The variable syntax is brilliant. Changing tax rate from 0.08 to 0.10 instantly updated 500+ formulas. Makes spreadsheets maintainable and formulas self-documenting. Perfect for financial modeling.

Describe what you need in plain English and get a working Google Sheets formula — then save it as a reusable snippet and shape it in a real multi-line editor. It's a formula workspace, not a one-shot box you paste from and lose.
Free plan — no credit card, installs in about 30 seconds.
Free, runs in your browser — no signup. Inserting into your real sheet, AI, and sync go live the moment you add it to Google Sheets.
Ask in the sidebar, check it, drop it in the cell.
Launch Formula Foundry from Extensions in Google Sheets and type what you need in plain English. Name the tab and columns if it helps: "on the Data tab, total column F per rep in A, West region only".
The answer opens in the multi-line editor with color-coded functions and ranges, and long QUERY or ARRAYFORMULA calls broken onto separate lines. Change a range or a condition by hand, or ask the AI to adjust it.
Send the formula to the active cell from the sidebar. Save it as a snippet and it syncs to your account, so it is there in your next spreadsheet and in Excel too.
Your spreadsheet experience, reimagined.
Five Sheets prompts and what comes back.
You type
In D2, multiply price in B by quantity in C for every row, and leave the row empty when A is blank
Formula
=ARRAYFORMULA(IF(A2:A="", , B2:B*C2:C))One formula fills the whole column, including rows added later. The empty second argument keeps blank rows blank instead of showing 0.
You type
From the Data tab, total column F for each rep in column A, only where the region in C is West
Formula
=QUERY(Data!A:F, "select A, sum(F) where C = 'West' group by A label sum(F) 'Total'", 1)Text values in a QUERY string take single quotes. The final 1 tells QUERY the first row is a header, and the label clause renames the sum column.
You type
Pull columns A to D from Sheet1 of another spreadsheet
Formula
=IMPORTRANGE("https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/SHEET_ID", "Sheet1!A1:D")Paste the other file's URL in place of the placeholder. The first time, Sheets asks you to allow access. IMPORTRANGE has no Excel equivalent.
You type
Show every row of A to D where the notes in column B mention urgent, in any capitalization
Formula
=FILTER(A2:D, REGEXMATCH(B2:B, "(?i)urgent"))(?i) makes the match case-insensitive. The result spills and updates as rows change. REGEXMATCH is a Google Sheets function.
You type
Sum of column C where the region in A is West and the month in B is March
Formula
=SUMIFS(C:C, A:A, "West", B:B, "March")This one is identical in Excel, so a snippet saved in Sheets works unchanged in the Excel add-in.
Builder, maker, helper: one tool.
A Google Sheets formula builder, a formula maker, a formula helper and a formula generator are four names for the same need: you know what the column should show, and you want the formula without hunting through function docs.
In Formula Foundry the AI writes it from your description, or you build it in the visual builder by filling in one form field per argument while a live preview shows the formula. Both land in the same editor inside the Sheets sidebar.
Sheets has its own dialect, with QUERY strings, ARRAYFORMULA and IMPORTRANGE that Excel does not have. The editor knows the Sheets function list, and when a sheet has to move to Excel the translator flags the functions that do not carry over.

Formula Foundry is genuinely impressive. Simplifying complex formulas, adding variables, snippets, and multi-tab editing inside Sheets is such a game-changer. As someone who has to deal with sheets, dashboards and pipelines every day, this feels like a tool built exactly for the pain points data people deal with.

Variables and vlookup are extremely useful in transferring Excel skills and keeping a sheet clean, as well as processing in fewer steps than I otherwise would have known how.

I found the AI Assistant extremely helpful because it saved me time by generating formulas automatically and suggested improvements I might not have thought of. It made complex tasks much easier and more intuitive, especially for repetitive or complicated formulas.

My favorite feature is the editor and being able to more easily structure my formulas. The easy readability is a game changer! Also, the variables are super useful when I need to put together a complex report.
